Abu Dhabi Unveils Major Update for Holiday Homes Sector

Farmhouses, Caravans, and RVs Now Eligible for Holiday Home Licenses in Abu Dhabi Abu Dhabi is embracing a significant enhancement in its tourism offerings by permitting farmhouse stays, caravan vacations, and RV travel experiences. The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT) has introduced a series of updates to its holiday homes policy, enabling farmhouse owners to obtain licenses to transform their properties into holiday accommodations.

This move aims to diversify the range of available accommodations in the emirate and unlock fresh economic opportunities for farm owners.

In line with recent decisions by the Abu Dhabi Government that facilitate farm owners in acquiring licenses for various economic activities, the expanded policy by DCT Abu Dhabi now encompasses the following:

  1. Farm stays
  2. Caravans
  3. RVs

This expansion opens the door for landlords and residential property owners to secure multiple holiday home licenses, presenting an attractive prospect for investors and property management firms alike.

Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, Director-General for Tourism at DCT Abu Dhabi, expressed, "The extension of Abu Dhabi’s holiday homes licensing policy to encompass farmhouses as guest accommodations is a supportive step for both the emirate's hospitality sector and the growth of agri-tourism."

Al Geziry continued, "As our emirate experiences substantial growth in tourism, it remains vital that we continuously offer visitors distinct and sustainable experiences that reflect our rich heritage and renowned Emirati hospitality."

To guide farmhouse owners through the registration process, DCT is offering assistance, including informative sessions on navigating the licensing system and understanding the requisites. Moreover, a comprehensive guidance manual is available on the official DCT website. Farmhouse owners have a grace period of six months to initiate the licensing process for their properties, ensuring a seamless transition and avoiding potential penalties.

In its commitment to fostering diverse and enriching experiences for all visitors, DCT is set to introduce a comprehensive policy framework for licensing and promoting farmhouse tourism activities. This initiative will encourage farm owners to cultivate and showcase Emirati-led agri-tourism experiences, aligning with the emirate's ongoing dedication to offering authentic and captivating encounters.
