The Asian Paralympic Committee (AsPC) has unveiled its plans for the 7th AsPC General Assembly (GA), scheduled to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from November 25 to 28, 2023.
In a historic first, representatives from the 45 Asian National Paralympic Committees will convene in Riyadh for this pivotal assembly, marking Saudi Arabia's inaugural hosting of such a distinguished para-sport gathering.
Over the course of four eventful days, the agenda will encompass a comprehensive Conference, a significant General Assembly session, and culminate in the crucial elections for the AsPC Executive Board.
The upcoming elections will determine the occupants of six pivotal Executive Board positions, including the President, two Vice Presidents, Chair of the Women in Sport Committee, and two Members at Large. All 45 National Paralympic Committee members possess the eligibility to nominate candidates for these roles, with the nomination deadline set for August 30, 2023.
Additional positions within the Executive Board, which comprises 15 esteemed members, will be occupied by a Vice President hailing from the Organising Committee of the forthcoming Asian Para Games, Vice President Mukhtorkhon Tashkhodjaev, representing the Tashkent 2025 Asian Youth Para Games Organising Committee, Chairs of the APC's six Standing Committees, and sub-regional representatives.
Beyond the official proceedings, the prestigious Asian Awards will be presented, celebrating excellence in Asian Para-sport. The event will honor exceptional achievements through six awards and the esteemed Asian Order, a recognition of remarkable contributions to the Paralympic Movement. Nominations for these accolades have already been shared with the membership.
President Majid Rashed expressed his delight, acknowledging Riyadh as the chosen backdrop for the momentous General Assembly. He extended gratitude to the KSA NPC for their gracious hospitality in hosting this significant gathering for the Asian Paralympic Family. The event, coming a month after the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Para Games, promises to be a dynamic conclusion to a remarkable year for the Asian Paralympic Family.
Preceding the General Assembly, parallel elections will be held at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Para Games. The Athletes' Committee election will determine the Chair and members of the sub-committee, with nominations due by August 31, 2023. Simultaneously, sub-regional representatives, who will assume roles on the Executive Board, will be elected by NPCs from each sub-region. The nomination process for this role is currently underway and will conclude on September 11, 2023, when the list of candidates will be published.
