Diriyah Project Attains Initial Milestone in Sustainability Certification Journey

In a momentous stride towards a sustainable future, the Diriyah Gate Development Authority (DGDA) has achieved the platinum-level precertification for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) accreditation from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). This notable accolade is a testament to the project's unwavering commitment to sustainability, integrating environmental, societal, economic, and human-centric considerations.

The LEED certification, a globally recognized symbol of sustainability excellence, sets the benchmark for healthy, cost-effective, and energy-efficient green buildings. It stands as the foremost sustainability certification worldwide, encompassing various levels such as building, neighborhood, community, and city.

The initial phase of the Diriyah development ambitiously pursues LEED certification at both the building and city levels. This platinum-level precertification underscores that sustainability is not merely a feature but an intrinsic element interwoven throughout the project's planning, design, construction, and operational phases.

Embracing a holistic Sustainability Strategy, Diriyah's approach extends beyond environmental facets, encompassing human-centric, economic, and societal dimensions. The project has embarked on significant initiatives, including enhancing circular economy practices, preserving biodiversity, monitoring environmental impact, and fostering social and economic programs to promote sustainable mobility, well-being, and local economic growth.

DGDA's commitment to sustainability is evident in its pedestrian-oriented development approach, preserving the authenticity of Diriyah's heritage while curbing fuel emissions and carbon footprint. The master plan's inaugural phase will echo the Najdi architectural style, incorporating locally sourced materials such as traditional mud bricks and Saudi Arabian limestone.

Diriyah has also embraced Saudi Arabia's indigenous sustainability certification program, MOSTADAM, aligning with Vision 2030's mission to enhance the quality of life for all Saudis. Amidst these endeavors, DGDA remains dedicated to its local community, striving to create a conducive environment where residents can thrive physically, economically, and socially.

Jerry Inzerillo, Group CEO of DGDA, expressed his elation, affirming the project's deep-rooted commitment to climate and nature considerations. He emphasized Diriyah's aspiration to set global sustainability standards, creating a pedestrian-friendly, highly livable city that pays homage to its past while forging a sustainable future.

Mohamed Saad, Acting DevCo President of DGDA, lauded the significance of Diriyah's preliminary LEED accreditation, reflecting the collaborative effort invested across the board. This milestone underscores Diriyah's resolute journey towards comprehensive sustainability on a global stage.
