Master Plan for the New Abha International Airport Unveiled by Saudi Crown Prince

Master Plan for the New Abha International Airport Unveiled by Saudi Crown Prince

The Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, who also heads the Council of Economic and Development Affairs, revealed the master plan for the new Abha International Airport on Thursday. This expansion project is set to transform the airport and enhance its capacity, making it a key component of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 initiative.

The current airport, with a capacity of 1.5 million passengers annually, will see a significant expansion that will more than double its capacity to nearly 13 million passengers each year. Additionally, the airport will be equipped to handle over 90,000 flights annually, a substantial increase from the present 30,000 flights.

This ambitious development is not only a boon for the airport but also a game-changer for the Asir region, which is poised to become a sought-after tourist destination. The expansion of air connectivity to 250 destinations and the potential to transport 330 million people aligns seamlessly with Asir's development strategy and the aviation policy in harmony with Saudi Vision 2030.

To become a renowned landmark within the Kingdom, the new airport aims to reflect a unified architectural identity that resonates with the history and culture of the southern Asir region. The initial phase of this expansion is slated for completion by the year 2028.

The new Abha International Airport will boast 20 gates, 41 check-in counters, and seven self-service check-in kiosks. The terminal, as opposed to the existing 10,500 square meters, will expand to a sprawling 65,000 square meters. This development includes the addition of passenger boarding bridges, self-service kiosks to streamline travel processes, and high-capacity parking facilities.

The airport's design is not only functional but also a tribute to Saudi culture, featuring the distinctive architectural style of the Asir region. This design aims to ensure efficient and seamless services for both guests and passengers, providing a unique and exceptional travel experience.

In summary, the master plan for the new Abha International Airport, as unveiled by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, promises to be a transformative project that will greatly enhance the airport's capacity, promote tourism in the Asir region, and contribute to the realization of Saudi Vision 2030's goals. With its striking design and improved facilities, it is set to become a prominent and efficient gateway for travelers to and from Saudi Arabia.
